Normally a hosted game would listen for connections on all available interfaces unless told otherwise, but not this one. It is programmed to find the adapter your system has deemed 'most important' (lowest metric value), and only use that one, doesn't matter if it's disconnected even.

So if that's not the interface you're connected to each other with, it won't work without some adjustments. Windows assigns a metric value based on the speed of the connection, which is why you normally can't play BL2 LAN over a WiFi connection. The WiFi automatically has a higher value than the wired connection. It's kind of a dummy proof thing from Microsoft's viewpoint.

If you connect your computer through WiFi, but also plug in the wired connection to the same network, the lower metric value of the faster wired connection will make your computer ignore the WiFi; yay, idiot proof! If you have any virtual adapters, they may be programmed to even faster speeds, and have lower metric values than your wired connection, so you'd never be able to play BL2 LAN. Anyways, it's a really dumb way to program a multiplayer feature imho. For LAN play, you actually don't need to forward any ports at all.

Just allow Borderlands 2 through your Windows firewall, or turn off your Windows firewall all together. Also, static IP addresses don't matter at all. You could have both systems set to DHCP, or both auto configuration IP addresses, and it would still work just fine once we're done; as long as they're on the same subnet, you're fine. You'll need to change the metric value of the interface you're using to connect to each other, on both computers. Windows won't automatically set an interface to a value lower than 5 currently, but for simplicity, set your wired connection to 1, and her wireless to 1 as well.

The steps to do this, are going to be something like this, depending on your Windows version: 1. Open the Network Adapter Properties (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections > right-click on the adapter you want to connect through, and choose Properties) 3. Open the properties of Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Click on Advanced. Untick 'Automatic Metric' and set the interface metric to 1.

Hit OK until you close the Network Adapter properties. Start game, select LAN under network options, and you should be good to go.
